"What is UGC Exam? Or what is University
Grants Commissions Examination?"
The National Educational Testing Bureau of
University Grants Commission (UGC) conducts National Eligibility Test (NET) to
determine eligibility for lectureship and for award of Junior Research
Fellowship (JRF) for Indian nationals in order to ensure minimum standards for
the entrants in the teaching profession and research. The Test is conducted in
Humanities (including languages), Social Sciences, Forensic Science,
Environmental Sciences, Computer Science and Applications and Electronic
Science.
Age Limit & Relaxation.
Junior Research Fellowship: Not more than 28
years. A relaxation up to 5 years is provided to the candidates belonging to
OBC (Non-creamy layer, as per the Central list of OBC /SC/ST/PWD categories and
to women applicants. Relaxation will also be provided to the candidates having
research experience, limited to the period spent on research in the
relevant/related subject of post-graduation degree, subject to a maximum of 5
years, on production of a certificate from appropriate authority. Three years’
relaxation in age will be permissible to the candidates possessing L.L.M.
Degree. Total age relaxation on the above ground(s) shall not exceed five years
under any circumstances.
CBSE: UGC-NET
Now on account of UGC, the Central Board of
Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct National Eligibility Test (NET) for
determining the eligibility for Assistant Professor only or Junior Research
Fellowship & Eligibility for Assistant Professor. CBSE will conduct NET in
79 subjects at 89 selected NET Coordinating Institutions. The candidates who
qualify for the award of Junior Research Fellowship are eligible to do research
in the subject of their post-graduation or in a related subject and are also
eligible for Assistant Professor.
UGC NET Schedule.
UGC conducts NET twice a year, i.e., in the months
of June and December. The notifications announcing the June and December
examinations are published in the months of March and September respectively.
UGC NET Result Declaration Schedule.
The result of June, UGC-NET is declared
generally in the month of October. Similarly December, UGC-NET result is
usually declared in the month of April.
Format For UGC NET Exam.
Paper-I: Is general and common to all, proposed to
check the teaching/research aptitude, reasoning knowledge of environment and
information and communication technology, governance, comprehension, creative
thinking and general awareness of the candidate. There are (60) multiple choice
questions of two marks each, out of which the candidate would be required to
attempt any fifty (50) as only first 50 questions are checked.
Paper-II: Is of 50 objective compulsory questions depends upon
the subject chosen by the candidate. Question is of 2 marks.
Paper-III: Is of 75 objective compulsory questions from the
subject chosen by the candidate. Each question is 2 marks.
All questions of Paper-II and Paper-III are
compulsory, comprising entire syllabus (including all electives). The candidate
will have to mark the answers for questions of Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III
on the OMR sheet provided along with the Test Booklet.
